Travel has always been a part of who I am. At 17, a trip to France with a friend opened my eyes to the beauty of experiencing new cultures. The unique architecture, delicious food, and different ways of life were thrilling.

Inspired, I set a goal to visit a new country every year. Now, at 29, I’ve visited over 20 countries. Each place has left a mark on me, offering unique experiences and lessons.

Here, I share what made each country special and offer recommendations to help you make the most of your travels. From the everyday moments that turned into unforgettable memories, travel shows us the beauty in our diverse world.

Exploring Australia was like stepping into a vast canvas of natural wonders and bustling city life. Diving into the Great Barrier Reef, I was surrounded by a kaleidoscope of colors, with fish darting through coral gardens and sea turtles gliding peacefully. It wasn’t just an underwater tour; it was a profound connection with nature, reminding me of our planet’s delicate beauty.

Visiting the Bahamas, I discovered that its beauty extends beyond the picturesque postcards of crystal-clear waters and white sandy beaches. The highlight was swimming with the pigs in Exuma. These friendly creatures, paddling around in the turquoise waters, were curious and surprisingly graceful. Sharing the water with them, feeling the soft nudge of their snouts, turned a simple swim into a memorable interaction with nature.

Belgium captivated me with its blend of historical charm and culinary excellence. Walking through medieval towns felt like a step back in time, with cobblestone streets and Gothic architecture framing the skyline. The real treat, however, was indulging in the local flavors. Sampling freshly made chocolate that melted in my mouth and sipping on rich, craft beers added layers of delight to my visit. It was a feast for both the eyes and the palate.

Canada’s landscapes are a testament to nature’s artistry, from the majestic Rocky Mountains to the tranquil lakes that mirror the sky. Vancouver, a city between the sea and the mountains, offered an unparalleled urban experience. Kayaking in the morning with a backdrop of towering peaks, followed by exploring vibrant neighborhoods, showcasing the harmonious balance between city life and nature. It was an adventure that highlighted Canada’s serene beauty and lively culture.

The Cayman Islands provided an unparalleled snorkeling and diving experience. Venturing into Stingray City, I was greeted by the gentle giants of the sea. With their wide, graceful wings, the stingrays glided around us, allowing for gentle touches and feeding. Floating among them, in the clear, warm waters, was like being part of an underwater ballet. This encounter was a vivid reminder of the wonders beneath the surface, waiting to be discovered.

In Prague, every cobblestone, spire, and bridge tells a story, making the city a living history book I had the privilege to read. The architecture is a tapestry of Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance, standing as silent witnesses to centuries. Dining in Prague was equally enriching; traditional Czech meals like goulash and dumplings in cozy, dimly lit taverns felt like a warm embrace on a cold day. The vibrant food scene, from street vendors to historic cafes, added a flavorful layer to my exploration of this city. Discovering where to eat in Prague became an adventure, revealing the city’s soul through its cuisine.

England’s history unfolded before me in the most captivating ways, from the solemn Tower of London with its tales of intrigue and ambition to the pastoral tranquility of the countryside. Experiencing pub culture and afternoon tea were highlights, offering a taste of English tradition and social life. Pubs, with their hearty fare and lively conversations, felt like community hubs, while afternoon tea, with its delicate pastries and teas, offered a pause in the day to savor the finer things in life. These experiences weren’t just about food and drink; they were gateways to understanding the English way of life.

France was the very first country I visited. Like a well-composed symphony, it’s a country that offers a range of experiences that harmonize beautifully. Paris at night, with the Eiffel Tower illuminating the sky, was magical, a vivid reminder of the city’s romance and charm. Venturing into Provence, the lavender fields stretched to the horizon, painting the landscape in shades of purple and filling the air with their soothing fragrance. France’s diversity, from its bustling cities to its serene countryside, provided a canvas on which I painted memories that will last a lifetime.

Germany offered a juxtaposition of history and modernity that fascinated me. Walking through Berlin, the remnants of the Berlin Wall served as a powerful reminder of the past, while the city’s vibrant art and technology scene pointed to its future. The festive spirit of Germany truly shone during the Christmas markets and Oktoberfest. The markets, with their twinkling lights, handcrafted goods, and the scent of mulled wine, felt like stepping into a fairy tale. Oktoberfest, with its lively music, traditional lederhosen, and steins of beer, was a celebration of Bavarian culture that welcomed everyone with open arms.

Ireland’s beauty lies not just in its emerald landscapes and rugged coastlines but in the warmth of its people. The Irish have a way of making visitors feel at home with their friendly banter and welcoming smiles. Exploring the wild Atlantic Way, the cliffs and the sea seemed to tell tales of ancient myths and legends. The green, rolling hills of the countryside, dotted with sheep and ancient stone walls, offered a peaceful retreat from the world. Ireland, with its natural beauty and the genuine hospitality of its people, felt like returning to a place I had always known.

Italy welcomed me into a world where history, art, and cuisine intertwine to create an experience that’s as rich as it is unforgettable. The country’s landscapes, from the ancient ruins of Rome to the Renaissance art of Florence, tell a story of a past that continues to influence the present. My journey through Italy was a feast for the senses, but it was in Tuscany where I found a piece of heaven.

England
